Back-fill of Steel Frames:
The hollow space between steel frame and wall has to be filled with back-fill materials. Mortar or two-component PUR foam (expanding glue) has to be used as back-fill material.
The customer determines which kind of back-fill has to be used!
As back-fill can be used:
- Mortar accord. to DIN 1053-1, earth-moist processed, completely back-filled.
Note: Due to own pressure of the cold formed sheets and the shrinking process of mortar an acceptable separation between sheet and back-fill can occur in the frame embrasure. Defective installation can not be concluded from that. - Two-component expanding glue (PUR) according to certification and verification of suitability, completely back-filled.
Note: Between customer and contractor a partial back-fill of at least 50 % may be agreed on.
The back-fill materials may not compound with other materials leading to corrosion or other chemical reactions.
Mortars must have tight connection to wall but not to steel frame.
PUR must have tight connection to wall and to steel frame.
The hardened PUR has to be dimensionally stable, that is to say it may not shrink nor expand. Expanding glue is considered as dimensionally stable if their dimensional changes is <= 3 % after usage.In case of partial back-fill PUR has to be filled at points of highest pressure, e.g. hinge- and lock-area.
The surface has to be clean and dustfree. Processing temperature may not fall below 5 ° C. Foam manufacturer's instructions for use have to be considered.
PUR and liquid back-fill materials require additional sealing of the hinge substructures and wall protecting boxes.
